Anyone can take a photograph.
And everyone has a camera.

So why are we so often disappointed with our images?

It’s because the camera needs something from you.

Intention.

What do you want to say? And how will you say it?

Every time we make a photograph there are hundreds of creative decisions to be made, from how we frame our subject, to how we use the light, to how we arrange our composition.

And if we don’t make these decisions in an intentional way, something is always missing from our images.

Photography with Intention is a self-paced class that will teach you to bring more of yourself to every photograph you create.

You’ll receive 30 bite-sized video lessons, delivered to your email inbox every Monday to Friday, for six weeks. Plus weekly challenges to help you develop your creativity and put your new skills to work.

Photography with Intention is £77. When you sign up you’ll receive the welcome video immediately and class begins the following Monday.

Start adding your voice to the images you make, whatever kind of images you make and whatever kind of camera you use.

What we’ll cover:

  • Understanding the limits of our Cameras
  • Composition Techniques
  • Understanding Light and how to take control of it.
  • Guiding our viewer’s eye through the image
  • Creative Courage
  • Figuring out what you want to say with your photography
  • What to do when your images aren’t working
  • Setting yourself a personal plan for exploration and improvement.

Questions you might have…

How much photography experience do I need to be able to take the class?

Very little. You’ll get the most out of the class if you have some knowledge of your camera and its functions but you’ll still get a lot out of class if the only button you know how to use is the shutter button.

This class is really about how to think through your creative choices when you’re taking a photograph, rather than any particularly technical knowledge.

If you are an experienced photographer, and you are very comfortable with using photographic techniques like composition and lighting to express your thoughts and ideas, then you might find my course My Creative Photography Roadmap a better fit.

Do I need to take self portraits or fantasy images?

Definitely not. This class isn’t about learning to do what I do, it’s about figuring out how to do what you want to do.
I’m going to show you how I think through some of the choices I make when I create an image but that knowledge will be useful whatever kind of images you want to take.

Do I need a fancy DSLR to take part?

Not at all. You can use any camera at all. The class is about working on the part of the photograph that is made by YOU, rather than the camera. There may be the odd technique that isn’t achievable on all cameras but you will still be able to make much better images by the end of the class regardless of the camera you use.

Do I have to submit my images for assessment?

Nope. You choose who sees your images. If you want to keep them just for yourself, that’s completely fine. If you’d like to share them you can post them on Instagram and tag Nicola (@zennic) using the hashtag #photographywithintention.

How long will I have access to the class?

Forever. At the end of the class we’ll send you a one page document with links to all the videos.

You’ll also have the option to restart the class and receive the daily emails again if you’d like to take the class again.

If we need to remove the videos at any point we will contact you and give you the opportunity to download them first.

How is this class different from Your Creative Photography Roadmap?

Your Creative Photography Roadmap is a class about learning to be more creative and to come up with more creative ideas for your images. It’s a class about ideas and personal style.

Photography with Intention is about learning to use photographic techniques to make images that make a connection with your viewer and that communicate something. These are skills that you will need to have in order to get the most from Your Creative Photography Roadmap so it is a good idea to take Photography with Intention first.

“You were an amazing teacher – really, you have a gift for guidance. You created an environment where I could really see my own role in the work versus crediting my progress forward entirely to the teacher. Such a rare thing to get from any creative class!

When I saw my photograph at the end I was completely speechless at how perfect it was, how powerful and authentically myself it made me feel.”

~ Jen

“Thank you for helping me open my brain up to the creativity I have locked in my heart.

“I still cannot believe that is me in that picture!”

~ Julie

“Thank you Nicola for your grace and generosity in sharing your work and yourself.

It was a day I won’t soon forget.”

~ Sue
